(WTEN) -- Now that the Native American school mascot ban has been made official by the Board of Regents, over 100 schools across New York will need to change their school mascots or team name. "Our identity is being used predominantly by non-Native people for their amusement and entertainment and oftentimes it's just terribly inaccurate," said John Kane, Native activist and NYSED Indigenous Mascot Advisory Council member. Cambridge school board files appeal to keep mascot Kane said the goal for schools across the state is to come up with an action plan by the end of this school year and actually eliminate any Native American mascots or team names by the end of next school year. BRUNSWICK, N.Y. (NEWS10) — On Wednesday morning, the Town of Brunswick had a water main break. By Wednesday afternoon, the town issued a boil water advisory, letting residents know that their water may not be good to use straight from the tap. The water main break was near Cranston Road, and crews were on the scene before 8 a.m. The advisory is for Cranston Road, Washington Drive, and part of Menemsha Lane.In those areas, use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and preparing food. GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10) - A Mississippi man was pronounced dead on Tuesday at the scene of a crash in the town of Guilderland. Vernon Baggett, 24, of Pascagoula, Mississippi, was pronounced dead in a two-vehicle crash on Western Turnpike. According to the Town of Guilderland Police Department, Baggett's vehicle collided with another, occupied by 21-year-old Schenectady resident Taminson Boone, as well as an 11-year-old passenger, at around 11:04 p.m. Both were treated for minor injuries by Guilderland EMS, and transported to Albany Medical Center.As of Wednesday, the cause of the crash was still under investigation. The proposed apartment complex would be called "Maryland Park," consisting of some land formerly used by a privately-owned golf driving range. The City of Maryland Heights has requested the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other agencies to review a building permit application on behalf of St. Louis-area developer KBG, Inc. A public notice from USACE reports the development would consist of 800 garden-style units and serve as a "mixed use, multifamily residential and service retail development." It labels the proposed location as "south of Creve Coeur Mill Road, north of Creve Coeur Lake, and west of Creve Coeur Creek."
